Why do we say what we say?

Checkmate (correction)

About Checkmate coming from the Persian Shah Mat, in persian language, the word MAT, literally means defeat, not dead. Shah is King true, but in chess, the term used is SHEH, which is probably derived from Shah, but the meaning of the phrase would still be "Defeat to the King", and not "Death to the King."
